In 2014, during the Ebola epidemic, Bright Star Orphanage opened in Liberia’s rural Toudee district, a bumpy 90-minute drive from Monrovia. It became a haven for 32 children who lost their families to the crisis, living with their caretaker, “Mama,” in a crumbling building with a leaking roof and thin foam pads for beds.

In April 2024, Co-op Aid partnered with Global First Responders to transform the orphanage. A construction team built a 14×14 addition, and our subsequent trips completed it with a new ceiling, fresh paint, and vinyl flooring. With funds raised, we provided bunk beds and mattresses, ensuring every child now sleeps comfortably.
